Brightwell has been named Cashflow Driven Investment (CDI) Manager of the Year at the Pensions Age Awards, recognising its industry leading approach to helping defined benefit pension schemes deliver secure, reliable cashflows and ‑long-term‑ resilience.
The award reflects Brightwell’s distinctive CDI philosophy, developed in close partnership with clients and built around an integrated approach to cashflow planning, risk management, liquidity and liability awareness. Brightwell’s CDI solutions are designed to support schemes running on, combining high‑quality income‑generating assets with robust governance and operational resilience.
The judges praised Brightwell’s entry, commenting: “This entry impressed the judges with its sophisticated CDI approach, showcasing creativity, robust risk management and a focus on sustainability.”
Wyn Francis, Chief Investment Officer at Brightwell, said: “This award is a powerful endorsement of our belief that cashflow‑driven investing is about far more than asset selection. It’s about understanding the scheme’s liabilities, managing risk and liquidity in an integrated way, and building portfolios that can pay pensions with confidence in all market conditions. I’m incredibly proud of the team and the work they do every day to support our clients and their members.”
Brightwell’s CDI framework emphasises cashflow certainty without sacrificing resilience, using a blend of high‑quality credit, open‑architecture manager partnerships and in‑house risk and liquidity oversight. This approach allows schemes to meet benefit payments as they fall due, manage funding volatility and maintain flexibility as they progress along their endgame journey.
The award adds to Brightwell’s growing recognition across the UK pensions industry and highlights the strength of its investment capabilities in supporting large, mature DB schemes in an increasingly complex operating environment.

Run-on has decisively overtaken buy-out as the dominant endgame for the UK’s largest defined benefit (DB) pension schemes. Seven in ten (70%) now target run-on, nearly double the 38% recorded just twelve months ago, while buy-out has collapsed to just 4%, according to new research published today by Brightwell in partnership with mallowstreet.
