PensionsAge Awards 2025: DB Investment Manager of the Year

Brightwell has won DB investment manager of the year at the 2025 PensionsAge awards.

Judges at the PensionsAge awards 2025 commended Brightwell for our approach to solving current DB investment challenges:

“Brightwell showcased a clearly-articulated approach to solving some of the key DB funding and investment challenges facing the sector today – a real thought leader.”

Key features of Brightwell’s approach to DB investment management include:

  • Investments in credit and bond-like assets: Brightwell invests in credit and other bond-like assets with contractual cashflows through strategic relationships with best-in-class managers.
  • Avoiding unnecessary turnover without being complacent: Assets are largely held to maturity to avoid unnecessary turnover, but we retain sufficient flexibility for active management to add material value through credit loss avoidance.
  • Portfolio diversification: Diversification is achieved bottom-up, considering geography, tenor, and asset type.
  • Avoiding material losses: The approach seeks to avoid material losses caused by defaults.
  • Delivering attractive value: The approach delivers attractive value by constantly considering opportunities to improve the yield, in excess of gilts.
  • Centralized LDI and risk hedging: This ensures seamless integration with CDI assets.
  • Integrated liquidity management: This includes corporate bond collateralization, which can also support a longevity hedge

Commenting on the win, Morten Nilsson, CEO, Brightwell said: “This award is testament to the hard work and dedication to excellence shown by our investment team. I couldn’t be prouder.”
