We’re pleased to share the first edition of DB Decoded – a new digital publication from Brightwell, created to explore the key questions shaping today’s pensions landscape.
Each edition focuses on a single theme, bringing together expertise from across our specialist teams to provide practical insight and informed perspectives. In our inaugural edition, we explore the world of pensions administration and ask a simple but important question: Is pensions administration finally having its Cinderella moment?
Too often, pensions administration is viewed as a back-office function. But as pensions dashboards approach, member expectations evolve, and schemes place increasing emphasis on data quality and operational excellence, administration is becoming a strategic differentiator.
Through a series of articles, our contributors share their experience from the frontline of administration delivery through to the strategic role administration plays in supporting better member outcomes. This is more than commentary – it’s informed thinking from people working at the heart of the industry. Featuring insights from Brightwell specialists and guest contributors, many of the articles provide an opportunity to connect directly with the authors and continue the conversation.

In this episode we also touch on Count Binface, the possibility of a general election before the year is out and whether pensions dashboards could give the sector a ‘Martin Lewis’ moment.

Pension Insurance Corporation plc (‘PIC’), a specialist insurer of defined benefit pension schemes, has completed the buyout of all 36,000 members of the Rolls-Royce UK Pension Fund ('the Fund'), just nine months after signing a £4.3 billion full buy-in with the Trustee. In order to achieve continuity of service, including the Trustee’s digitally focussed approach, PIC has appointed Brightwell as its administration partner. Brightwell has set up a new, dedicated office in Derby and the existing Rolls-Royce administration team, who were already based in Derby, have transferred to Brightwell to ensure that expertise is retained.
