Brightwell comments on the consultation and draft guidance on fiduciary duty

Morten Nilsson, CEO, Brightwell said: “Trustees’ fiduciary duty to act in members’ best interests is the bedrock of our pension system and is well tested in law.

“In an increasingly complex world, it’s right that Trustees should consider a range of long-term, financially material risks. But, the guidance must be practical, proportionate and avoid prescription.

“If it’s too heavy handed there’s a risk of adding unnecessary cost and complexity, slowing or stymying decision making with little discernible benefit for members.”
