Brightwell appoints Mike Bussey as Non-Executive Chair

Brightwell, the comprehensive service provider for defined benefit pension schemes, has announced the appointment of Mike Bussey as Non-Executive Chair, subject to FCA approval.

Mike will be responsible for leading the Board and ensuring it meets its collective responsibilities. He will also Chair the Remuneration Committee. Mike has over 20 years’ experience in pensions operations, project management, implementation, and business change.

Mike worked for HSBC Group based in Asia, the Gulf, Africa, North America and UK for over 20 years in a number of senior executive level roles followed by ten years as CEO of three highly respected global private banking and trust firms.

From 2011 Mike has enjoyed a selective portfolio of Chair and non-executive roles. Mike is Chair of Deutsche UK Bank Ltd, a position he has held since 2020. In November 2024, he was also appointed Chairman of The London Clinic, the UK’s leading private charitable hospital based in London.

Commenting on his appointment, Morten Nilsson, CEO Brightwell said: “Mike brings a rare combination of global financial services leadership, deep governance experience and a strong track record of chairing ambitious organisations. As Brightwell continues to support clients through an increasingly demanding and fastchanging environment, Mike’s experience and judgement will be invaluable to our Board and to the organisation as a whole.”

Mike Bussey said: “Brightwell has a strong reputation for creativity and longterm thinking in the pensions market. I’m looking forward to working with the Board and leadership team as the business continues to grow and evolve.”
